Lately, videos and photos have gone viral on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook showing a beautiful pink insect that looks just like a rose petal. Many are calling it the rose praying mantis or sleeping rose mantis.
It looks amazing – but is it a real insect or just AI art?
Rose Praying Mantis Real or Fake
The Truth is it is Mostly Fake.
Let’s be clear:
- The rose praying mantis seen in viral videos is not real.
- It was created using AI (Artificial Intelligence) and digital editing tools.
- Trusted fact-checkers like Lead Stories and News Literacy Project have confirmed that this specific insect does not exist in nature.
But Real Flower-Like Mantises Do Exist!
Even though the rose mantis is fake, there are real mantises that look like flowers, such as the:
- Orchid Mantis (Hymenopus coronatus) – pink and white, looks like flower petals
- Spiny Flower Mantis (Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii) – from Africa
- Violin Mantis – long legs that resemble twigs or leaves
These insects use natural camouflage to hide from predators or sneak up on prey. Some even sway like flowers in the wind!
Conclusion
Is the rose praying mantis real or fake?
It is fake – made with AI and doesn’t exist in the real world.
But mantises that look like flowers (like the orchid mantis) do exist and are amazing to watch!
