Is X Blocking Video Downloads? | Fact Check

A new claim is spreading quickly on social media saying that users can no longer copy or download videos on X (formerly Twitter). Many posts are warning users that the platform has removed this feature completely. This has confused a large number of people, especially those who regularly save or share videos from the platform. Some users believe this is part of a new update, while others think it is just another viral rumor.

Because of this, one question is trending that is it true that you can’t copy videos on X anymore?

Is X Blocking Video Downloads?

Reality Check : The Claim Is Misleading

The truth is not as extreme as it is being shown online.

• You can still copy video links on X
• Videos have not been completely blocked

The viral claim is misleading, not completely true.

What Users Can Still Do

Even after recent changes, users can still:

• Copy the link of any post that includes a video
• Share videos through reposts or direct sharing options
• Watch and interact with video content normally

So, the idea that copying videos is completely disabled is false.

What Has Actually Changed

The confusion started because of changes in how downloading works.

Here is what has actually changed that X does not offer a simple download button for most users. Some features are limited or controlled and Not all videos are available for direct download. Certain options may depend on account type or settings.

Because of this, many users felt that the feature was removed entirely.

Can You Still Download Videos?

Yes, but not directly in most cases. Users can still download videos by:

• Copying the post link
• Using external tools or methods
• Saving videos from public posts

This means downloading is still possible, but not built into the app in a simple way.

Why X Limits Video Downloads

There are clear reasons behind these restrictions:

• To protect content ownership
• To prevent misuse or unauthorized sharing
• To keep users engaged within the platform
• To control how media is distributed

These changes are part of platform control, not a complete removal of features.

The claim that you can’t copy videos on X anymore is not true. The platform has only limited direct downloading, which caused confusion.
