Viral Photos of Rabbits in Colorado

Recently, people in Fort Collins, Colorado, shared pictures and videos of wild rabbits with scary tentacle-like growths on their faces. These images went viral on social media, and people started calling them zombie bunnies or even alien rabbits.

Are Rabbits With Tentacles Real?

Yes, the photos are real. But here’s the truth – those “tentacles” are not actually tentacles. Experts say these are wart-like growths caused by a virus called Shope Papilloma Virus (SPV).

What Is Shope Papilloma Virus (SPV)?

• SPV only affects rabbits – not humans or pets.
• It causes horn-like or spike-like growths on the face and head of rabbits.
• In most cases, these growths are harmless, but sometimes they can become cancerous.
• The virus spreads between rabbits, especially in the wild.

Is It Dangerous to Humans or Pets?

No, Wildlife officials confirm SPV cannot infect humans, cats, or dogs. However, you should avoid touching infected rabbits to protect their safety and yours.

What Should You Do If You See One?

• Do not try to catch or touch the rabbit.
• Keep pets away from wild rabbits.
• Report sightings to local wildlife authorities.

Rabbits With Tentacles Real or Fake

• Real – The rabbits exist and the photos are genuine.
• Fake – They are not mythical or alien creatures. The “tentacles” are just virus-caused growths.
